Urban Settings
Tanzania has many small towns on the edges of lakes,
at the foot of mountains, and along the coast. These make excellent filming
locations in a variety of ancient Arabic, modern, and traditional African
urban settings.
Dar Es Salaam
The buisness capital for Tanzania, Dar Es Salaam is on the coast, it
has a large port, Railway stations and international Airport. The are
several buildings of German colonial era, more recent 60's style high
rises that are in various states or repair.
Zanzibar
On the island there is one main town, the famous Zanzibar Stone Town.
This settlement has history and culture rooted deep into the foundations.
Narrow streets of arab origin, men in Kanzus, donkeys pulling carts as
most of the streets are too narrow for vehicle traffic, there is no other
town like Zanzibar.
Arusha
Arusha is a main street town that has grown only slightly. It
has a small airport, a colourful main market and several mobile markets.
The town is set below the large mountain Mt. Meru. It is a town with village
life within its streets, maasai wandering about, ladies carry banannas
on their heads to market and buses and 4X4's jamming the roads.
Mwanza
A town on the coast of lake Victoria, hot and dry, this town is surrounded
by Kopjes, large rocky outcrops that scatter the countryside. The town
has a small port with ships travelling to and from Kenya and Uganda. A
unique town in East Africa.
