Parks and ReservesTanzania National Parks and Reserved areas have one main unique asset
to any film production unit, there is an almost guarantee of 360° of uninterrupted
view with no buildings, no fences and very few vehicles. This allows any
director to point the camera in almost any direction and shoot without
waiting or redirecting the unit. This is due to the policy of Tourism
Ministry of low impact development and the fact that Tanzanian tourism
does not focus on the mass market. Arusha National Park

Arusha National ParkThe park has three distinct zones: Mt. Meru, Ngurdoto Crater, the Momella Lakes, a group of shallow alkaline lakes fed by underground streams. This is a great forest location, with the advantage of being so close to Arusha that logistically, hotels, lodges and transport are good value. |

Gombe Stream National Park Gombe is the smallest of Tanzania's national parks, and one of the best
known due to Jane Godall's research on the Chimpanzees, Hugo Van Lawrick's
extensive record of her work and the lives and threats to the Chimpanzee.
Travel to the Park is by water only from Ujiji or Kigoma. |

Katavi National ParkKatavi National Park lies south west of Tanzania on a high flood plain surrounding Lake Katavi. This lake has some of the highest concentrations of Hippo in Tanzania. Although Katavi is little known, it does have some of the most bizarre sequences of animal behaviour due to the concentration of animals in the area and the pressure of the seasons upon the ecosystem.

Lake Manyara National ParkLake Manyara is a typical rift valley lake that has a high concentration
of Soda, attracting flamingos to feeding near the shores. The lake has
an impressive back drop of the Rift Valley wall, a 2000 foot escarpment
with spring feeding the forests below. This park is relatively near Arusha,
it does have large hotels nearby making this area a logistically affordable
location.

Mikumi National ParkMikumi, to the north of the Selous, is only 283 km away from Dar-Es-Salaam.
The park's flood plain bordered with mountain ranges, is the main feature.

Ngorongoro CraterThe Ngorongoro crater's assets are the fact that animals are used to
vehicles, you can therefore get very close shots of animals and their
interaction. Also due to the concentration and diversity of the animals,
there is often a lot of impressive interaction between the species. This
compensates for the fact that there are a lot of vehicles in the crater
and the 360° view is not expected in this location. However, the crater
is for close ups and your wider shots will either require patience or
another location.

Serengeti National ParkThe Serengeti is one of the world's last great wildlife refuges. This
vast area of land supports the greatest remaining concentration of plains
game in Africa, on a scale unparalleled anywhere else in the world. The
annual migration of more than 1.5 million wildebeests as well as hundreds
of thousands of zebras and gazelles is triggered by the rains. The vegetation
in the Serengeti ranges from the short and long grass plains in the south,
to the acacia savannah in the centre and the wooded grassland concentrated
around tributaries of the Grumeti and Mara rivers.

Tarangire National Park Tarangire is a photogenic park, typical of Africa, with large herds
of elephants resting under the shade of the classic baobab tress. The
permanent water supply of the Tarangire River means that during the summer,
the animal population here rivals that of the Serengeti with elephant,
wildebeest, zebra, hartebeest, buffalo, gerenuk, fringe eared Oryx coming
to the river daily to drink. Filming in this environment is relatively
easy, just wait on the river. |
